The Green Team is the team of students and teachers that are dedicated to helping save the environment. The goals of the Green Team are:
  1. Building school and community awareness about environmental issues

Building School and Community Awareness about Environmental Issues
  • Create Posters (hand drawn or with Glogster) to educate others. Students can focus on topics like recycling, water conservation and saving enenrgy.
  • Making Morning Announcements to encourage students and staff to participate in some of the Green Team initiatives.
  • Selling t-shirts and water bottles to promote the efforts of the Green Team

Helping to Save the Environment in Our School and Community

  • Reusing 1 sided paper; please place unstapled printer paper in the Bin in your room and we will be collecting it every Friday. If you are looking for 1 sided printing paper to use, please send students to Mr. Seebach's room in Room 333
  • Recycling cell phones, ink jet cartridges and laser cartridges. Please encourage your students to help our efforts. They may bring any of these items to the Main Lobby (drop them in the BIG Recycling Box), Room 333, Room 311 or Room 406.
  • Turn off your classroom lights when they are not in use. Turn off and unplug projector carts at the end of every day to conserve energy.

Mrs. Hogan's students are going green!
As part of a science project, students created the "Rose in Bloom" Garden right in our front yard. They were actually able to grow several different things, including those delicious tomatoes.

Our Energy Saving Initiative

Did you know that Cavallaro is one of the highest energy consuming schools in Brooklyn??!! One of the reasons for this is because of all the technology we have in the building that is plugged in and running every day.

The Green Team would like to team up with the iSquad to try to limit the amount of electricity our school utilizes. By unplugging computer carts during times that classes are not using them, we can reduce the amount of electricity that our school is using.

Two other ways that we can easily save energy are

1. Turn off our projectors/carts when they are not in use and

2. Unplug the projector carts at the end of the day.

We are asking Homeroom Teachers and iSquad students to:

  • Turn off and unplug their Laptop Carts the night before they have Gym class in the morning
  •       (eg.- Unplug carts on Tuesday night if class has Gym 3rd period on Wednesday).
  • The iSquad would then plug in and turn the carts on the next day.
  • Unplug the Projector Carts at the end of every day.

Schedule of when Students Turn Off and Unplug the Laptop Carts
Students should turn off carts at the end of the day
